THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE
Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is the internationally renowned Marriage and Family Therapist famed for delivering candid, insightful wake-up calls and life-changing “aha!” moments in her books and on her radio talk show. Expanding on the themes of her earlier bestseller, The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, she issues an empowering new message in THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE (HarperCollins Publishers; On Sale: January 2, 2007; $25.95; Hardcover), asserting that most problem marriages can be healed, as long as both partners are willing to examine their own behavior and commit to taking loving action. Husbands and wives must make the other feel special, adored, and treasured for the marriage to thrive, and Dr. Laura will help folks achieve this blessed, peaceful, and happy state.

In her view, “the single, most horrible problem for marriages today is the lack of understanding, not only of what is need by a man in a woman, but also what is needed by a woman in a man.” Dr. Laura believes that respecting and embracing the natural polarity between the sexes is the key to nurturing a lasting, loving bond. THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE reveals that happily married people view themselves as complementary, equally important and powerful members of a team with different roles and qualities, and they put ‘we’ first!

THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE is illustrated with transcripts of calls from listeners, letters and e-mails highlighting the frustrations plaguing today’s married couples — from small annoyances like nagging and nitpicking to potential catastrophes like bankruptcy and infidelity — as well as testimonials from elated men and women who have benefited from Dr. Laura’s advice. Partially due to the aftershocks of the feminist movement, which minimized the importance of caring for the home and the children, and the selfishness that has become so acceptable in our society, people have lost touch with the oneness that is the bedrock of the marital covenant. Dr. Laura will guide couples back to what first brought them together and help them reconnect with the force of we/us (spouse and children).

Dr. Laura posted a series of research surveys on her website (www.drlaura.com), and the feedback was revealing. She found overwhelmingly that men need simple things from their women like attention, love, compassion, sex, and moral support. Female participants reported that they seek strength, courage, confidence, honesty, and chivalry among many other traditionally masculine characteristics. Dr. Laura breaks down the data to explain what husbands and wives really want and don’t want from each other.

Too often, she recognizes, we take out our childhood hurts on our loved ones without even seeing it. Dr. Laura urges readers to look inward before pointing fingers, and explains what to do when the emotional lovey-dovey feelings don’t seem to be there. THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE suggests making behavioral changes that will improve your spouse’s life dramatically, including:

* Treat your spouse as if you loved him/her with your last breath
* Think hard every day about how you can make their life worth living
* Be the kind of person you would want to love, hug, and come home to

THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE shares the hard-earned wisdom of couples who have fought back from nearly splitting up. Many of these men and women feel that going to hell and back has actually been a blessing in disguise. For those looking at divorce as a solution, Dr. Laura advises readers on approaching your spouse when it all seems hopeless, reminds people to think carefully about the needs of the children, and presents ten alternatives to giving up.

Even when it looks impossible, most marriages can be salvaged and renewed. Dr. Laura knows how to accomplish this. THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF MARRIAGE will show couples that by giving — their attention, their time, their love, their forgiveness, themselves — they will get back more than they ever could have imagined, most rewardingly the spouse and the marriage of their wildest dreams.

Designer Offers Tips for Fashionistas Looking to Create Their Own Style

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Aug. 27

Brother International Corporation recently announced a business relationship with Jillian Lewis, one of three finalists of the hit fashion reality television show, “Project Runway” Season Four. Lewis was recently a keynote speaker at Brother’s annual Back to Business event, where she explained how her own Brother sewing machine helped in developing her dream to become a fashion designer.

(See Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080827/LAW519)

Lewis began sewing at the age of 16, on a Brother Pacesetter 2300. This Pacesetter model carried Lewis through her collegiate career at Parsons School of Design, and was used to create her first complete line shown on “Project Runway” Season Four. Lewis notes the Pacesetter 2300 “will go down in history” as a huge asset to her for creating clothes to wear to school, developing her senior thesis and preparing for “Project Runway” Season Four.

“Brother has come a long way in 100 years, especially in the last 50. I see my own story as parallel with Brother’s,” said Lewis. “I share the same vision in the realization of my dreams as a designer and in the history I have with my Brother machine,” said Lewis.

In addition to aligning herself with Brother, Lewis is launching her new clothing line, which she calls “ultra-feminine, sexy, colorful and unique to my vision.” Inspiration for the line came from many avenues, including graffiti. Lewis comments that her designs transform an irrelevant art form, making her collection abstract, sophisticated and chic.

“Jillian Lewis has such a great brand heritage with Brother,” said Dean F. Shulman, a senior vice president of Brother International Corporation, and head of the company’s home appliance division. “It speaks volumes that she created such intricate and revered designs using a Brother machine and we feel proud to have her as part of the Brother family.”

For those who want to make their own fashions, Brother has recently introduced the C-Combo series, a line of affordable, feature-packed combination embroidery and sewing machines. The line features the Innov-is 900D and SE-350, and starts at around $399*. Both models boast advanced sewing and embroidery features in a compact, lightweight design, making them perfect for aspiring designers looking to discover their potential.

For those looking to create their own individual styles, Lewis offers the following tips:

– Designs should express individuality, personal style, comfort and point of view. As long as the intended wearer feels great in the design, it will look great too.

– Follow fashion week coverage for Spring 2009 designer collections online and in magazines for inspiration. Never copy other designs, but learn from what trendsetters are doing and identifying as the next hot styles. Also, take a trip to a designer store and study the construction techniques used. Learn from what already exists, improve it, take it further, and think about how designs can enhance the lifestyle of their wearers.

– There is a lovely artsy trend in fashion right now. Experiment with an airbrush, creating a Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired watercolor wash on clothing and add layers of embroidery with built-in designs from Brother’s Innov-is 900D or SE-350 for new textures. These touches can transform a tired wardrobe, but be sure not to overdo it!

– Toward the end of a season, before the weather changes, it feels time for a new wardrobe. Stretch the use of seasonal clothing with manipulations. I look at everything as raw material. I went through a phase where all of my fiance’s shirts were taken apart and made new and unrecognizable for me into tunics and things! I have purchased head bands from the convenience store and embellished them with feathers.

– One major lesson I took away from my experience on “Project Runway” is that when it comes to creativity and design innovation, the sky is the limit. Any idea, no matter how over the top, is achievable. As long as the ideas are there, so is the opportunity to create. So do it!

BLESSO PROPERTIES ANNOUNCES LATEST PROJECT AT 112 WASHINGTON PLACE
Historic Renovation Sets the Standard for Contemporary-Classic Living

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (New York, NY, August 11, 2008) – Blesso Properties (BP), a Manhattan-based real estate development firm with numerous record-breaking sales in Manhattan, has announced the company’s newest project – the restoration of a Federal townhouse in the West Village, set for completion this fall. Transforming 112 Washington Place, a neglected 1832 townhouse into a modern, historically-inspired residence was no easy feat, but with two other West Village townhouse gut renovations recently completed and sold for record prices, BP was equipped to take on another.

When BP initially toured 112 Washington two years ago, passersby assumed the building was abandoned. The home was actually occupied by a gentleman whose family had owned the property for more than one hundred years and it had remained almost unchanged during that time. “Walking into the house was like walking into a time capsule explains project architect Andrea Steele of ANDArchitects, “We found newspapers from the late 1800s, flags with thirteen stars, and tax filings in Quill pen… the entire home was being held together by layers of paint.” With the residence in such a neglected state yet so rich in history, the challenge was to preserve the original fundamental “context” while converting the townhouse into a modern dwelling deserving of its setting in of the world’s most sought after neighborhoods. BP is a firm of historic preservationists and makes every attempt to salvage and restore the unique elements that are uncovered in each project. 112 Washington presented enormous challenges—the front façade was literally slipping off the building, for instance—but BP still managed to save and reuse key elements such as the fireplaces and the doorknobs.

The extensive renovation process began in the home’s parlor where dramatic light and unique proportions brought to mind another era. “As the focal point of the townhome, we wanted to treat the parlor as a found object while we renovated around it,” explains Steele. In order to expand on the flood of natural light, a double-height living room was created for a stronger connection to the magnificent outdoor garden, while details such as David Weeks light fixtures and a wood-burning fireplace were added. The large garden, an unusual luxury in Manhattan, connects to the living room through a dramatic windowed wall, generating stunning views through the building of the tree-lined streets and creating a true indoor-outdoor feeling year-round. The front façade was restored to its original glory, and boasts early details such as wrought-iron railings, fluted columns, and a majestic entrance under the unique transom. BP strived to bring the building back to its former glory where possible while thoroughly updating other elements to satisfy today’s discerning buyer.

Upon its completion this fall, 112 Washington Place will be a new example of “classic meets contemporary”, complete with modern amenities such as a video/intercom security system with multiple stations and Sonos multi-room audio systems. Lavish finishes in this grand 3,500 square foot residence will include 5-inch North American black walnut floors and stairs, white carrera marble, four fireplaces, and custom, handmade millwork.

Rarities such as a finished basement, a full-floor master bedroom/bathroom suite, and a penthouse addition complete with entertainment room, wet bar and roof deck, make this four-story townhome a sought-after residence that will set a new standard for elegant downtown living.

ABOUT BP:
Blesso Properties, the innovative firm from banker-turned-developer Matthew Blesso, is making a big impression on New York City real estate. The company’s unconventional approach has earned numerous design awards and rapid sell-outs previously unseen in competing markets including highest average sellout for any building north of 111th Street and highest price per square foot of any five-story walk-up in New York history. By employing creative design, eco-friendly methods, and a goal of transforming underutilized buildings into premier residences, BP produces unique and stunning environments with sensitivity to the character of their neighborhoods. The recent sell-out of a Harlem loft (some units above asking price), as well as two townhouses in the West Village, prove that BP’s formula for success pays off even when the market is weak.

More info on Strikeforce At The Mansion II!

Strikeforce sent out the following press release:

SAN JOSE, Calif. —Former Pride Fighting Championship Grand Prix winner, Kazuo “Grabaka Hitman” Misaki (22-8-1) will take on fellow middleweight wonder Joe “Diesel” Riggs (28-10) at Strikeforce mixed martial arts’(MMA) highly-anticipated return to the world-famous Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Saturday, September 20th.

“I am looking forward to making my debut for Strikeforce at The Playboy Mansion, an incredible venue that is well-known throughout the world,” said Misaki, the winner of Pride’s 2006 welterweight Grand Prix elimination playoff. In his last effort, a meeting with rising star Logan Clark in Saitama, Japan on June 8th, the 32-year-old Team Grabaka star secured his second straight win by earning a nod from all three judges scoring the matchup.

“Joe Riggs is a tremendous competitor. His style is aggressive like mine so I have no doubt that our fight will be an exciting and memorable one.”

To arrive at the winner’s circle of the highly coveted tournament produced by the now-defunct Pride organization, Misaki defeated both “The NY Badass” Phil Baroni and then-reigning Pride welterweight champion, Dan Henderson.

Misaki was eliminated in the tournament’s semifinal round of action by Paulo Filho, but a knee injury Filho sustained during the contest precluded the Brazilian from advancing to the championship round. Misaki replaced Filho and capitalized on the opportunity, taking a split judges’ decision from Denis Kang.

The 25 year-old Riggs of Phoenix, Ariz. is coming off a second round submission of Matt Dempsey on July 26th. The victory marked a successful comeback for Riggs after a back injury he sustained from being thrown by Cory Devela at Strikeforce’s debut in Tacoma, Wash. on February 23rd, left Riggs ailing on the canvas and forced him to verbally submit only a little over a minute after the matchup began.

“The back’s great. It’s 100 percent,” Riggs said. “I’m really excited to be healthy again and looking forward to getting back on top.”

To help him prepare for what is arguably his toughest challenge in nearly two years, Riggs is bringing in to his camp a host of heavy hitters, including MMA legend Ken Shamrock, as well as former UFC Middleweight Champion, Rich Franklin; Jeremy Horn; and Edwin Dewees.

Riggs insists that this will be his final fight at 185 lbs. “I’m dropping to 170 lbs,” he proclaimed, “and gonna jump into the top 10 in that division.”

In a featured matchup with Eugene “The Wolf” Jackson at Strikeforce’s inaugural Playboy Mansion-hosted event on September 29, 2007, Riggs overpowered the ageless brawler and finished Jackson at the 3:56 mark of the opening round with a ground and pound offensive.

During his seven-year professional career, Riggs has defeated a number of rival standouts, including Nick Diaz; Joe Doerksen; Chris Lytle; and “The Ultimate Fighter 3″ winner, Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove.

The showdown between Misaki and Riggs is the first confirmed “Strikeforce At The Mansion II” matchup. The lineup will be comprised of 10 bouts.

In addition to a full night of MMA action, all “Strikeforce At The Mansion II” guests will be entitled to a top-shelf, open bar; buffet-style, gourmet dinner; and wine-tasting party featuring the spirits of various California gold medal wineries.

Strikeforce wrote a new chapter in sports history when it produced the first-ever MMA event at the Playboy Mansion last September. Amongst the host of celebrities who attended the affair were Hefner and “The Girls Next Door;” comedians Gary Shandling and Joe Rogan; actress and model Jaime Pressly; actors Michael Duncan Clarke, Christina Fulton, Ethan Suplee, Ernie Hudson, and Page Kennedy; MMA legends Royce Gracie and Bas Rutten; and superstars Cung Le, Frank Shamrock, Josh Barnett, and Andrei Arlovski.

About Strikeforce:
Strikeforce is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its “Shamrock vs. Gracie” event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, Strikeforce has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” Since then, it has co-produced the first SHOWTIME PPV mixed martial arts event in history with its world championship “Shamrock vs. Baroni” card on June 22nd of this year followed by the first-ever mixed martial arts event at the world-famous Playboy Mansion on September 29th.

After a Summer in the Sun, Are You at Risk? Dr. Richard Bezozo Offers Tips for Early Detection: Screenings Can Save Your Life

MILLBURN, N.J., Aug 12, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — As a summer sitting in the sun is coming to an end, are you at risk for developing skin cancer? One in five Americans will get skin cancer, with one American dying every hour from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer so, now is the time to get your skin checked for suspicious-looking moles and lesions.

Early Detection Saves Lives

Available for interviews is Dr. Richard Bezozo, president of MoleSafe USA, who can offer tips on how to detect possible skin cancer and avoid the risk factors of melanoma. Among those who are most at risk(1):

– “Sun Worshippers”: Sunlight is the main source of UV radiation, in addition to tanning lamps and booths. Any exposure to light from these sources increases your risk for skin cancer, including melanoma.

– Multiple Moles: Moles usually begin to appear in children and teenagers and most will never cause problems, but a person who has many is more likely to develop melanoma.

– The Fair and The Freckled: The risk of melanoma is more than 10 times higher for whites than for African Americans – skin pigment has a protective effect. Whites with red or blond hair or fair skin that freckles or burns easily are at increased risk.

– Family History: Your risk of melanoma is significantly higher if one or more of your first-degree relatives has been diagnosed with melanoma. Around 10% of all people with melanoma have a family history of melanoma.

– Personal History: A person who has already had melanoma has an increased risk of getting melanoma again. About 5% to 10% of people with melanoma will develop a second one at some point.

About MoleSafe USA

MoleSafe USA is the world’s most advanced melanoma screening program designed to protect you and your family from the deadly effects of melanoma skin cancer. MoleSafe is a state-of-the-art procedure involving the digital imaging, archiving and diagnosis of moles and other suspicious lesions.
